Birdline
New South Wales
Birdline NSW is a site for the reporting of rare or unusual birds outside their normal range, unusually high or low numbers, early or late arrivals or departures for migrant species and interesting behaviour or unusual habitat usage. We may also consider publishing unusually-plumaged birds (e.g. albinistic/leucistic/melanistic) if they are considered interesting or are uncommonly seen.

Birders are encouraged to post lists to eBird Australia, where sightings are incorporated into the BirdLife Australia Atlas. To do this you need to register with eBird Australia then login. All Regent Honeyeater and Swift Parrot reports should be forwarded to Mick Roderick to assist in the recovery of these severely declining species: mick.roderick@birdlife.org.au. Note we will not be publishing reports of Accipiter raptors (Collared Sparrowhawk, Grey/Brown Goshawks) or Square-tailed Kites unless they are in unusual locations or are seen with unusual prey etc.

| Mon 6 | | Pink Cockatoo Badu Lake, West Hoxton, NSW |
|
| 2 Pink Cockatoos in the gums around Badu Lake at the end of Twenty Third Avenue. Apparently 2 birds escaped from an aviary at Mt Pritchard (about 10-15 kms from this sighting) early 2026. So these may be those birds but they were unbanded so ????? Moderator's Note: while it is not our policy to publish reports of Avairy escapees, which I am sure these Pink Cockatoos are, it much have been a surprisingly pleasant experience to see these l9vely birds, so I have published the sighting AKM. eBird checklist |

|
| The number of Geese at this known site has now increased to 200+ birds after their disappearance a few months back apparently to breed in local wetlands. |
| Greg Clancy 28/3 #273043 |
| | Roseate Tern Long Reef Aquatic Reserve Sydney |
|
| Found in the Crested Tern Roost on Sunday evening. Obviously smaller that Crested Terns and too long winged and slow in flight for Little. the key features identified were the obviously long slender all-black bill, flat crown and a smooth white upper edge (not saw toothed) to the primaries, which should eliminate Common and White-fronted Terns.
Other features pointed out by Steve McBride include small head, white eyering (potentially), bill shape and primary projection.
